People ask me all the time, “Do I have to have a professional videographer shoot and edit my video? Can’t I just use my flip phone?” And the answer is, yes, you can use your flip phone! Absolutely! Sometimes. If you have a business and there’s a cool event happening, grab that phone! Shoot a minute or two of video. Frame it up. Pay attention to the background and the head room and the sun. Edit in your phone and post it to your facebook page. Yes, yes yes. For one thing, you will begin to collect b-roll for future video projects. This is a wonderful way to archive and document progress. Secondly, you will get ideas for more involved videos if you shoot some of your own. And finally, it’s just good marketing - you create more revenue – so you can afford a professionally shot and edited video. Because, at the end of the day, the answer is no, you can’t create a polished professional video without professional skills. It’s the skills that make the piece strong, not the equipment. For your high-end product launch, or testimonial, or service infomercial, hire it done. Professional skills take years to develop, and they are worth it.
